Sure it makes a certainly cool story. Boy abandoned in the forest is raised by the wild animals. Especially if you can grow up to be the King of the Apes or if the wild beasts are cute and cuddly lovable old fuzzies who love to sing and dance like in the sharp version of the Jungle Book.
But have there real life cases of Tarzan or Mowgli?
The Wolves
Remarkably, the riposte is yes.
The Missionary's Surprise
In 1920, Joseph Singh, a missionary in India was startled to see see a mom wolf emerge from the woods followed by two small humans who moved colse to on all fours and sported a large estimate of matted hAir on their heads. He and a group of heavily armed Men had ventured into the jungle to exorcise the evil spirits the local villagers claimed were bothering them.
Singh considered to capture the children and return them to civilization. Unfortunately this required shooting the mom wolf as she was considered to protect her "cubs."
The cubs turned out to be two girls aged about 8 and 18 months.
Long History -- Still Today
Even more excellent is that this is not the first or only case on record. Accounts of children being raised by animals date back at least to the 1300's and certainly were known long before that. And in modern times there have been well docuMented cases of children cared for by animals for short periods of time -- including the predominant case of the young child who fell into the gorilla cage a few years ago and was nursed and protected by the female ape until rescued by officials.
The stories of today are particularly tasteless in the old Soviet Union, where the 1990's total collapse of the economy left millions of families homeless and children orphans.
