The Minnesota Timberwolves naturally have too many point guards. Why do they suddenly feel the need to enlist so many guards?
I know they struggled to find their way with a point guard these last two seasons. With guys like Marko Jaric and Mike Miller (typically a small forward!) manning the point, it was positive that the team desperately needed a legitimate point guard. It's safe to say by now that Sebastian TelfAir is somewhat of a bust, so it was no hidden that the Minnesota Timberwolves needed serious help at the point guard position.
The Wolves
Still, look at what they did in the off season! Having had two lottery picks in the Nba draft, the Timberwolves superior Ricky Rubio when given the opportunity. All seemed great, as the 18 year old Spaniard had a ton of upside, and could potentially man the point for years to come.
Then, in a surprise move, the Wolves decided to take Johnny Flynn, the point guard from Syracuse, with their next pick. Why draft two young players at the same position? Who would get the minutes?
If this wasn't weird enough, the team signed two more point guards while the off season. Veteran guard Antonio Daniels (previously with the Wizards), and Ramon Sessions, other talented young guard (from the Bucks) entering his third year in the league.
What exactly is this team trying to do, and why? Talk about a serious complex! As if the lack of a point guard was responsible for the team's 24-58 finish last season?
Whatever it is, expect more of the same in Minnesota next year - if they should be so fortunate.
